VENUE SPOTLIGHT: THE KNOX
We are so excited to have the opportunity to highlight one of our newest venues, The Knox! Set in the quaint town of Merrickville (just outside of Ottawa) this stunning gothic venue is the perfect setting to tie the knot. We hosted one Chapel at The Knox in 2022 and we are so excited to be back in 2023! Check out our interview below with co-owners, Michelle & Matthew.

TELL US ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE KNOX & HOW IT BECAME A VENUE.
The Knox was built in 1861 and operated as a Presbyterian Church for years and has had many lives since then; the local daycare, an antique shop just to name a few. When myself (Michelle) and my husband, Matt, came to view the property, we immediately fell in love with the space and thought it would be perfect as an intimate wedding venue. We got the keys in February 2020 and spent about 6 months renovating before opening our doors in August 2020!
WHAT MAKES THE KNOX UNIQUE AS A VENUE?
The Knox is full of old charm (a designated heritage building) combined with a modern minimalist aesthetic. The hall features 18 foot ceilings and soaring black gothic windows. Our outdoor space features the lawn alongside the original red brick exterior of the building. Located in the heart of the historic village of Merrickville, means that restaurants, shops and accommodation are all a short walk from the venue. At The Knox we encourage our couples to create a unique experience for their guests and allow them to bring in any vendor they would like, allowing them to create a wedding day that reflects them perfectly as a couple!
WHAT DREW YOU TO WANT TO HOST THE POP-UP CHAPEL AT THE KNOX?
We've been big fans of The Pop-Up Chapel Co. Not only did we love the concept of providing couples with a celebration that falls in between the big wedding and city hall but we also felt that our values were aligned as businesses and we could really create a magical experience together for chapel couples!
IF YOU COULD DESIGN A CHAPEL, HOW WOULD IT LOOK?
Bright, bold colours and patterns! We've seen many beautiful weddings in our space featuring neutral, soft tones and it would be fun to see a really vibrant colourful design in the space. Maybe even a disco ball or two!
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO FOR THE 2023 CHAPEL SEASON?
It really blows us away that we get to share The Knox and our village with 10 couples in one day! It's such an exciting day for everyone involved, filled with so much love and happiness and we can't wait to be a part of that again! We're also really looking forward to seeing the design, every chapel is so unique and so much thought and attention goes into the details for each one, it's really fun when the design is revealed to us.
TELL US ABOUT HOW THE KNOX VALUES SIMPLICITY, INCLUSIVITY, SUSTAINABILITY & SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS?
SIMPLICITY: We like to keep it simple here at The Knox! We provide our couples with a beautiful space and they build out their team of vendors and design the wedding of their dreams. We pride ourselves on making the process and communication with our clients seamless from the first email right up until the wedding day!
INCLUSIVITY: From day one it's been important to us to create a space that is inclusive. Every couple that comes through our doors should feel accepted and celebrated for exactly who they are! All races, religions, genders, sexual orientation and identities are welcome here!
SUSTAINABILITY: Through our sister company, Anthology Event Rentals, we offer decor rentals to all of our clients! Our classic collection features everything from arches to candleholders to bars. Our rentals are a convenient and sustainable way for clients to create a beautiful wedding design without purchasing one-time items for their decor.
SOCIAL CONSCIOUSNESS: Giving back to the local and global community is a priority for us at The Knox! Every year we choose a charity to partner with and for each couple that gets married at The Knox that year, we make a donation to that charity! We offer a discount to non-profit/charitable organizations and of course love the opportunity to partner with companies like The Pop-Up Chapel Co. who integrate giving back into their business model!
