OUR 2024 WEDDING TREND PREDICTIONS
A new year is upon us and with it comes new trends and more exciting than that, trend predictions! TikTok and Instagram are lit up with creators forecasting the wedding ‘Ins & Outs’ of this year, and giving us all an opportunity to comment on them. As wedding industry professionals, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share our own thoughts on what 2024 weddings will look like. From tiny wedding parties, to excessive florals and decor, one thing is clear; 2024 couples are making their weddings completely their own.
Intimate Affairs
We’re not just saying this because we did it first, but the micro-wedding trend is here to stay. Couples everywhere are opting for smaller, more intimate affairs to celebrate their nuptials and who can blame them? In a Post-Covid world, with rising costs, we’re all beginning to see the value in keeping it casual and calm. Gone are the days of letting your parents make the guest list - if a micro wedding, elopement, or backyard party is what you desire, go for it. Gather with purpose and plan with intention.
We might have a good idea of where to start … ;)
Increased interest in planners, coordinators, and vendors
While the marriage rate has gone down and weddings are getting smaller, the wedding industry is stronger than ever due to an increased need and interest in wedding planners, coordinators and vendors. Not only that but prices are steadily climbing each season. Being in this field we love watching the wedding world grow and evolve into an entirely new being. That being said, no industry is without its flaws and we’ve all heard wedding planning horror stories. Our advice? Do your research. Ask your married friends what they wish they knew, talk to your vendors before hiring and always trust your gut! The wedding world is massive and the perfect vendors for your special day are out there, invest a little extra time in finding them!
Personalized experiences
Everyone wants their wedding to stand out and represent them in all their unique glory. We’re seeing countless new ways to make your wedding all your own, from rotary phone guest book recordings, to tequila bottle seating charts, to best friend officiants. The best part of this trend is that couples can take it in a million different directions. Even the most traditional wedding aesthetic can contain your own signature twists. And in a world of #weddingtok there are plenty of places to get some inspiration on how to put your own stamp on the big day.
Non-white dresses
The white dress is classic. You’ll never hear us saying it’s going out of style. However, there's room for more than one colour of dress at the top of the aisle, and the brides of 2023 have shown that. Ranging from just off-white, to bright Barbie pink, and even black, brides (and grooms!) are bringing their own style to the aisle. And we LOVE to see it. Say it with us…WEAR WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GREAT!
Short dresses
Just like the coloured dress, we want brides wearing the dresses that make them feel stunning. Although some very talented people can spend 8 hours in a gown and heels (shout out to the Drag Queens), it’s not for everyone. If you are the type to spend the night on the dance floor in bare feet, maybe a short dress is more up your aisle (see what we did there?)
PRO TIP: If there are bare feet on the dance floor, there should be NO glassware. The ER is no place for newlyweds.
Romantic / Antique Decor
We’ve all seen the bows. People are putting bows on everything. Hair bows, candle bows, cake bows, puppy bows. The bow trend is BIG. We’ll likely see more of it throughout 2024 but we think the bows speak to a larger trend; antique romantic design. This would include basque waist wedding dresses, candlestick lighting, old world venues, and mile-long dining tables to name a few. One thing we love about this trend is seeing the thoughtful ways people tie in their family heirlooms. Some people are incorporating china or furniture heirlooms in their decor and some brides are wearing brooches or jewelry passed down from relatives. This era is very classical and timeless, so if you enjoy the old world, take a look at this trend and see where it takes you in your wedding inspiration!
Over-the-top bold florals
From the old world to Barbie-core, 2023 has given us permission to go over the top. 2024 florals are going to be big and bold whether it be all white everything, or the entire rainbow. We’re seeing decor that uses sprawling floral installations, instead of dainty bud vases and bouquets that explode with blooms, rather than delicately arranged roses. Our favourite take on the trend is the overhead floral installations - talk about over the top!
Preserved florals
The methods of preserving florals have expanded greatly in the last few years. Our Pop-Up Chapel couples are offered the opportunity to have their bouquets preserved in resin, however there are plenty of artists using different techniques to allow brides and grooms to keep their wedding day florals as a lifelong keepsake. Some brides are opting to have them preserved using a drying salt, while some are having exact paper replicas created. Lots of couples (and Chapels designs) are also incorporating dried florals into their day-of decor. This is a great way to add texture to an arrangement or installation, plus they’ll last all day without any wilting!
We hope these predictions give you inspiration for your own weddings and events for this year and beyond. Keep your eye out for our Chapel Recap blogs popping up every other Tuesday for more ideas on wedding planning, vendors and decor.
